Sarla Voyer

Sarla Voyer calls on the evocative power of objects to construct her installations and sculptures. Referring to a real or fictional place, her propositions are developed through the use of everyday objects. These works reveal a certain intimate character that is translated through a narrative approach to sculpture. Whether closely or remotely related to facts or places linked to her personal life, the fictional territories that she builds let the intimate dimension seep into public space. Her works are also inscribed with references to landscape and architecture. Through the appropriation of found or reworked everyday objects her work usually presents itself in the form of an itinerary which invites viewers to experience the work while walking.

Sarla Voyer has been present on the Canadian artistic scene since 1990. She has participated in over forty group and solo exhibitions, for the most part presented in Québec museums and artist-run centres. Her work has notably been shown in Lloret sur Mar in Catalonia, and in 2007, at Plein Sud with the exhibition LOGER/DÉLOGER. She has also participated in the second edition of the Biennale internationale du lin in Portneuf. Her works are part of the Musée d’art Joliette and private collections. She lives and works in Montréal.
