Through my work I attempt to understand how an object carries a metaphysical or invisible presence, literally and figuratively. What I try to capture is the essence, the spiritual mark left by the living after its disappearance. I explore how narratives of specific archives change with the passage of time (deaths, personal stories, public dramas or simple events). I gather these fragments and use them as a point of departure for artworks or research projects so that they may become visually understood through sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking.

Jean-Michel Leclerc works with the notions of memory, presence and the invisible through sculpture, drawing and printmaking. He is laureate of the Simon and Sylvie Blais Prize (2017) as well as theAlbert-Dumouchel prize and the BMO 1st works contest! for Quebec (2012). His work is held in many private and corporate collections, including the BMO Art Collection. He holds a Master's degree from Concordia University (2018).
