naakita f.k. (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal.
They use their installations as a means to listen, translate, and tell stories related to changing landscapes, abstract forms of inheritance and legacy, and the pliability of memory. Their current body of research uses hauntology to explore the impacts of extractive industry and the colonial project on built and natural environments, while imagining possible futures contained in a haunted place. Notable presentations of their work include MoMA PS1 (New York, United States) in 2012; Trinity Square Video (Toronto, Ontario) in 2016; Knot Project Space (Ottawa, Ontario) in 2018; Mémoire de l’Avenir (Paris, France) in 2019, EXPRESSION (Saint-Hyacinthe) in 2020; Videofenster (Cologne, Deutschland) in 2021; Fonderie Darling (Montreal) in 2022; and Images Festival (Toronto) in 2023.
