TROP DE FUN, PAS ASSEZ D’CASH, ÉDITION TRASH 2022

ANNUAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN /
FALL-WINTER 2022

You’re just a few clicks away from making an extremely kind gesture. We thank you in advance!

At Centre CLARK, we’re passionate about our work in artist-run culture and we love to share that passion with you in each of our project, each exhibition, each event, each publication launch, each artist residency. CLARK’s vision is guided by the community we belong to and work for. Thanks to you, CLARK has put art and artists at the heart of its concerns for more than 30 years!

TOO MUCH FUN, NOT ENOUGH CASH is our way of introducing you to the spirit of CLARK through real and funny anecdotes, which remind us of moments when we had too much fun, even if we didn’t have enough cash! This year, we offer you the TRASH EDITION : a series of surprising, smelly and sensory anecdotes that punctuated our activities at CLARK.

Your donation is a symbol of this shared passion.

No donation is too small!

You decide how much to give. Enter any amount in the field provided. All contributions - no matter how small - are significant!

You will be asked to fill out your personal information so that we can issue you an official donation receipt. Your transaction will be processed through the online platform Simplyk. Once your transaction is complete, a confirmation email will be sent to you.

STORY #1

Like the time an industrial garbage can got way too much attention on Marketplace!

After painting about a hundred objects white for Maison Modèle IV, we needed to get rid of them and, hopefully, recoup some of our expenses. Among these was a large industrial trash can that generated endless negotiations between several aggressive buyers. Many competitive offers later, the winning buyer came by to claim the giant bin and stuff it, as best she could, in a small cab—after complaining that CLARK had terrible after-sales service!

It just goes to show that at CLARK, the definition of “other related tasks” is pretty broad!

STORY #2

Like the time where the loading dock became CLARK’s official furniture supplier!

The loading dock at 5455 de Gaspé is always a very busy place, in addition to being the building’s garbage depot and a treasure trove of unexpected resources. More than once, it came through with furniture for our office and gallery, and even our library.

Shout out to the office chair we snagged ten years ago on the dock!

STORY #3

Like the time CLARK had a nasty fruit fly invasion!

For his immersive exhibition Bunk Bed City, in 2011, Dean Baldwin held several evening events where people hung out and drank many, many fruity cocktails. In no time, the gallery reeked like a bar at the end of a long, sweaty night, the floors were super sticky, and rapidly multiplying fruit flies had taken over the gallery.

Looks like fruit flies know how to spot a good party, too!

STORY #4

Like the time we learned what a P-Trap was for!

For two long weeks, our spaces were invaded by a terrible stench, like a cross between rotten sewage, vomit, and a dead rat. After days of searching high and low in nauseating despair, we finally realized that it was coming from the drain. Corine quickly became our emergency plumber-slash-contortionist, and used a small tube to add water to the siphon, which was tucked away behind the water heater at the very back of our mini kitchen cabinets.

...Shout out to Corine, a great exhibitions coordinator, and apparently a great contortionist!
