Résidence / El Bachir Diouf
01.22–04.08.2024

Center CLARK is proud to welcome artist-in-residence El Bachir Diouf, in exchange through the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) and the Ministère de la Culture du Sénégal, with the support of the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (MCC) and the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie (MRIF).

El Bachir Diouf, named Bachart, is a Senegalese visual artist born in Dakar in 1991. After graduating from the École Nationale des Arts de Dakar (2017), he develops his own version of pop art and surrealism, which he calls “Wakh sa guiss” in wolof— which translates to “saying what I see”. The artist considers his work to be an interpretation of today’s society; a denunciation of the uncertain future facing young people in Senegal, Africa, and the rest of the world. In his work, the aquatic world acts as a mirror reflecting the human condition. In this world depicted by El Bachir, “the law of the strongest has become the rule”.
