Alegría Gobeil
Alegría Gobeil works with practices that are considered as self-destructive, unproductive, unlivable, unsurvivable. Their indisciplinary practice, which is based in performance art, has taken the form of protocols, writings, documents, altered objects, exhibitions and site-specific actions. These forms are often the result of citational and narrative processes, allowing them to refuse acts of avowal, disclosure and thwart accounts of oneself. Their work always unfolds within the material, corporeal and contextual constraints of their production.
A’s work has notably been presented by Sara’s at Dunkunsthalle (New York, US) and L’Oeil de poisson (Québec, CA) in 2024, Centre CLARK + GNO (Sudbury, CA) in 2023, Le Lieu (Québec, CA) in 2021 and 2023, Gruentaler9 (Berlin, DE) in 2022, Folie/Culture (Québec, CA) in 2018, 2020 and 2022, at Centre SKOL (Montreal, CA), FAPTR (Trois-Rivières, CA) and OFFTA (Montreal, CA) in 2019.
