Kristina Norman
Born in Estonia and part of the country’s Russian-speaking minority, Kristina Norman pays particular attention to the cultural and political geography of post-Soviet nations. The tangles between collective memory and historical amnesia are at the basis of Kristina Norman’s interdisciplinary practice which brings together video installation, sculpture, performance and intervention. The artist’s approach highlights the moving, unstable, and nearly always conflictual arrangements between bodies, private and public spaces, collective and individual identities, and majorities and minorities, through works that draw heavily from investigative documentary while also creating experimental choreographies.
