We began with a question that everyone has heard, received, or asked themselves at least once in their lives. What would you like to do someday? is also a question that spans across ages, generations, and borders. We wanted a subject that encompasses our desires, intuitions, hopes, disillusions, and above all, our dreams.

A dream is a powerful tool that has the ability to interrupt, make us travel through time, and reconsider our relationship to reality, whether past, present, or future. We question the time continuum because it forms the basis of the dialogue between the conscious and unconscious mind. We attempt to trace the infinite cycle of thoughts that are tossed between our waking dreams and our nocturnal fantasies.

What would you like to do someday? is directly inspired by our personal histories and combined experiences. It’s a project that involves our collective and personal memories. The starting point of this surreal journey is the “phare,” or lighthouse. Solid, static, and physically set apart from the world, it takes us in and rouses us. The sound of footsteps and the lighthouse lamp grab our attention, while the surrounding unrest brings sudden stops aboard fishermen’s boats. Heavy doors creak open onto faraway but familiar horizons.

In this piece, we follow in the footsteps of Lili, the lighthouse keeper, who was inspired by the life of Aurélie Steunou-Guégan. Almost five years ago, Aurélie embarked on a cargo ship for a solo trip to Japan, with her backpack and audio recorder as her only companions.

Submerged in a kind of looping dream, Lili climbs the lighthouse steps, one by one. She follows this dream as a rite of passage and self-acceptance. But this is no ordinary fantasy. It also challenges her levels of resilience. It allows her to interpret, to reinvent, to crystalize and finally tame her memories into a new form. A spontaneous, daily, and generative emotional construct, her dream becomes a work of art, like a salt sculpture whose contours are modified every night. Here, each element—the storm, the lighthouse, the forest, the poem—forms a whole that becomes permanent.

What do you want to do someday? offers a sonic journey, a vagabond dive into the very nature of dreaming. We are offer a continuum that reinvents itself with every listen.
