Alegría Gobeil

Alegría Gobeil works with practices considered self-destructive, unproductive, unlivable, contagious, and unsustainable.

Their undisciplined practice always unfolds in direct relation to the material, bodily, and contextual constraints of its production. A’s methodology aims to thwart her appearance as a Subject, favoring citation and opacity as techniques of diversion and multiplication. Recently, they have focused on subverting and rejecting anamnesis to free themself from its deadly injunction. Their work has taken the form of protocols, exhibitions, performances, installations, and writing.

Art action, Centre Skol (Montreal, CA), Rencontre internationale d’art performance, Folie/Culture (Quebec, CA), and Verticale (Laval, CA), Festival d’art performatif (Trois-Rivières). Residencies include: Est-Nord-Est (upcoming), LA SERRE arts vivants (2025-2026 and 2023-2024), Folie/Culture (2021-2022), Centre Skol (2018). Their texts have been published (Inter, Moebius, Cigale, Aspects sociologiques) and performed in New York (Sliphouse, Franklin Parrasch Gallery) and Montreal (Fonderie Darling, Soirée de la poésie La Centrale X Dare Dare, Calliope, Port de tête la nuit, Festival de poésie de Montréal).
