We are pleased to invite you to a public marathon reading evening of the latest issue of Le Merle – Horizons: Beirut–Montreal, as well as a fundraising event in support of initiatives providing assistance to displaced people from Lebanon (@roots.of.r3sistance).
The event proposes a collective reading aloud of the entire publication as a gesture reaching toward the other; a form of listening that calls for presence to what vibrates between oneself and the world. To inhabit another’s words through the emergence of a sensibility that takes shape within language itself.
Edited by Mirna Abiad-Boyadjian and François Lemieux, this issue explores the notion of the horizon and the experience of its possible absence, fostering exchanges between Lebanon and its diaspora. The publication brings together a constellation of reflections that engage with imaginaries of dwelling and exile, the play of invisible borders and distance, practices of resistance in image-making, and the political representations of sectarianism, ecology, and the particular experience of Lebanese urbanity.
Anyone interested in reading aloud (between 5 and 10 minutes) is welcome to participate. We encourage you to write to us (at cahiers_lemerle (at) protonmail.ch or @lemerle.xyz on Instagram) so that we can anticipate the number of readers.
Featuring writings by Nadia Abiad & Mirna Abiad-Boyadjian, Etel Adnan, Hoda Adra, Majd al-Shihabi, Farès Chalabi, Hassan Choubassi, Gabriella Choueifaty, T.J. Demos, Ghida Hachicho, Rena Karanouh, Sevan Injejikian, Sammy Kayed, Lynn Kodeih, Maissa Maatouk, Hussein Nakhal, Chantal Partamian, Ghada Sayegh, Christian Sleiman, and Jalal Toufic.
A digital version is available online: https://lemerle.xyz/
Printed copies will be available for purchase on site for $20.

This fundraiser is organized by Le Merle in collaboration with @roots.of.r3sistance, a movement of independent organizers in Lebanon urgently raising funds for the +1 million (& rising) displaced.
