On October 3 and 4, the Agora at UQAM’s Cœur des sciences pavilion, located just behind the Place des Arts metro station, will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to bring together more than sixty artists, writers, and publishers of books and magazines on art, from across Canada and beyond.

Admission is free to the public: it’s a great opportunity to pick up some great finds.

It is the only bilingual book fair in the Americas, and the only one in the international network of art book fairs held in Quebec!

The fair is taking place in the midst of a week of activities and performances throughout Montreal, as part of the Volume 9 MTL International Art Book Festival.

This year, the festival will welcome guests from Europe, including Extrapool and Knust Press (Netherlands), pioneers of RISO printing, as well as Pascale Obolo from the African Art Book Fair for a discussion on the decolonization of art book fairs. Several studio tours and presentations will also take place at UQAM, Concordia, and McGill.

Roundtable Discussion – « Décoloniser les arts par les revues culturelles »

Fascism is on the rise, and we are all witnessing multiple wars, genocidal violence, ever-increasing precariousness, and various forms of dispossession. In this context, how can we fight—through the spaces and organizations that shape the arts community—for human rights, justice, and the liberation of our communities?

In this discussion, we will explore the role that cultural journals play in these struggles. In particular, we will examine how editorial spaces can and must become sites of resistance, solidarity, and transformation. We will also examine how power dynamics permeate the production, circulation, and legitimization of discourse in the arts. Then, we will reflect on how to speak out, construct discourse, and produce knowledge collectively.

Featuring Renato Rodriguez-Lefebvre (revue Spirale), Mirna Abiad-Boyadjian (revue Le Merle) and Marion Zahar (revue Saha – ساحة).

Hosted by Sayaka Araniva-Yanez (Librairie CLARK)
