Benoit Bourdeau
After studying art at Cégep de Saint-Laurent (1975–1978), Benoît Bourdeau earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1986. An illustrator, artistic advisor, webmaster, and graphic designer—notably for *Le dictionnaire thématique visuel* published by Québec-Amérique—he has created set and lighting designs for various productions, including those by Nathalie Derome. A founding member of Galerie Clark and the company Des mots d’la dynamite, he has exhibited his work widely, notably in *Champs magnétiques* (1993–1994) at the Maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges and, more recently, *Le Tarot de Montréal*—a project initiated by artist Marie-Claude Bouthillier that was part of the Conseil des arts de Montréal’s touring program.
Bourdeau’s approach involves repurposing everyday objects; for instance, in his work *Panaroma*, he replicated a piece of furniture and carefully scorched it with a torch to give it a charred, disaster-stricken appearance, while a peephole in the side allowed viewers to look inside and behold an idyllic scene.
