Corine Lemieux

Corine Lemieux explores the silent power of creation. Driven by an irrepressible need to make visible the relationship between body and mind, she manipulates clay between her fingers. As a practice of transformation and metamorphosis, ceramics allows forms to emerge freely throughout the process. Her hands are not in the service of ideas—like antennae possessing magical powers, they are the tool of the mind. She cultivates a love of detail, for when she looks closely enough at reality, other dimensions open up to her. A curiosity about the different forms in which consciousness emerges guides her research, sustained by the conviction that reality exceeds what our senses allow us to grasp. Corine Lemieux lives between Tiohtià:ke/Montreal (Canada) and Devon (England). Since 1998, her installations have been presented in numerous galleries in Canada and abroad. From the outset, her practice has oscillated between individual and collaborative work, driven by the conviction that creating together helps transcend the illusion of duality. These spaces of encounter blur the boundaries of authorship, dissolve the figure of the artist-genius, and recognize collective consciousness as a source of possibilities. In 2010, she published a book related to her photographic practice titled en cours de route (published by Éditions Sagamie) and took part in Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal (biennial of contemporary image, 2011 edition). She also holds a Master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2021).
