Florence Viau

Rooted in a practice that is both sculptural and pictorial, I explore how images circulate, transform, and (de)materialize across time and interfaces. Drawing on the fields of ecology, semiotics, and visual perception, I examine the recurring patterns and evolutions within our systems of representation—spaces where matter breaks free and information is revealed. My formal and conceptual research draws inspiration equally from the making of images—the tools, techniques, and gestures that produce them—and the media that host and alter them. In this context, I investigate the tensions between progress and decline, using science fiction as a speculative method. From this process emerge works characterized by an enigmatic materiality and a layering of archaeological, technological, and cosmic references.
