Frédéric Lavoie

Frédéric Lavoie (b. 1976, Montreal) holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and a master’s degree in visual and media arts. Through a diverse practice that draws on documentary or fictional elements, he creates narratives, group portraits, and thematic analyses. Archives—whether film, paper, or digital—serve as his primary working material. His research, grounded in a critical approach, centers on themes of listening and observation, as well as the relationship between nature and culture. His work—spanning video installation, photography, drawing, and object-based art—has been exhibited in galleries, artist-run centers, and museums, and featured at video art events. Key projects include the feature-length film *La Nature Contre-Attaque* (125 min, 2019), the exhibition *Le début de la fin* at the McCord Museum (2014), and a mid-career retrospective titled *Réécritures* at the Musée régional de Rimouski (2014).
