Gennaro De Pasquale
One aspect of De Pasquale’s work focuses on the representation of sound through objects, images, and installations. His project *Post-Audio* demonstrates an interest in sound as material, language, and an autonomous artwork, as well as in the forms of dialogue and correspondence it shares with the visual. In 2008, he presented *Panorama*, a video work constructed from film fragments. His practice is characterized by an approach based on sampling, looping, and recomposition, leading to acts of appropriation, détournement, and transposition. Raw material is manipulated and takes on new meaning through a process of construction, reinterpretation, and decontextualization. On several occasions, his installations have recreated environments derived from existing models, playing with the boundaries between fiction and reality. His approach is driven by a commitment to research and experimentation across various media and languages; these elements converge to form a body of work with a hybrid character.
Gennaro De Pasquale was born in Italy in 1969 and lives and works in Montreal. His body of work encompasses installations, drawings, videos, photographs, sound pieces, and new media projects. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including *Post-Audio Esthetic* at Galerie Clark in 2000, which he both conceived and curated. He has exhibited his work in Europe, Canada, Asia, the United States, Brazil, and Chile. He took part in an exchange between Centre Clark and the Glassbox gallery, which culminated in the exhibition *Citizen* in Paris in 2002. In 2004, two of his works were presented at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec as part of the group exhibition “Ils causent des systèmes” (“They Talk About Systems”); one of these was a sound piece titled “OK Computer,” generated using translation and speech-recognition software. In late 2004, he launched his web art project titled *Post-Audio NetLab*, a fictional virtual universe centered on music culture. In 2006, he directed the *Post-Audio_DVD* project, a compilation featuring audiovisual works by Montreal-based artists.
