Jean-Philippe Thibault
When tinkering, Jean-Philippe Thibault attempts to temporarily set aside habits that lead him to hastily dismiss something as childish or another as austere. With this mindset, the artist immerses himself in a particular sensibility, turning his attention to humorous or poetic approaches often described as “childlike.” Through play, his various projects explore a wide range of themes, including tenderness, friendship, fear, sorrow, joy, and laughter. The settings and characters within his work inhabit a shared imaginary realm—a fusion of playful experiences, memories, and pop culture. This space is known as *zipertatou*.
Jean-Philippe Thibault completed his Master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal in 2003. Since then, his work has been exhibited at various venues and events in Canada, Japan, Spain, and France. He is a member of Galerie Clark (Montreal) and is represented by Galerie Joyce Yahouda (Montreal). His practice interweaves video art, animation, model-making, photography, drawing, illustration, sound and musical tinkering, and, occasionally, performance art.
