Santiago Tamayo Soler

Santiago Tamayo Soler (he/him) is a Colombian Canadian artist based in Montréal, primarily working in video. With a background in performance art and film, he holds a BFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University. Santiago’s practice centers on world building, constructing digital universes from archival materials such as video, photography, and online found images. Through these virtual environments, he explores Latin American identity from a diasporic perspective. Drawing on the formal structures of visual languages from video games, telenovelas, and digital cartography, he creates spaces in flux between the real, the remembered, and the imagined. These frameworks function as narrative devices, guiding stories that envision future worlds shaped by radical fantasy. Santiago’s work has been exhibited and screened locally and internationally. Awards include the 2025 MNBAQ Contemporary Art Award and the 2023 EDAA Emerging Digital Artists Award. Selected residencies include the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts Impressions Residency (2024) and the PHI Foundation Montréal Residency (2021).
