Anne-Renée Hotte

Anne-Renée Hotte’s research explores the modes of transmission and expression at work within living communities, whether human, animal, or vegetal. By closely examining the codes and systems that unfold within them, the artist seeks to reveal their structures, both visible and elusive. Through photography, video, and finely articulated sound compositions, Anne-Renée Hotte seeks to make perceptible the vocabularies of a latent, even cryptic, form of communication. Her installations engage with the notion of narrative outside the realm of commonplaces, taking on a fragmented and hybrid form rooted in allegory. The result is an open-ended reflection on the foundations of the connections and divergences, or lack thereof, that run through the living world.

Anne-Renée Hotte holds a master’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal and a bachelor’s degree in Photography from Concordia University. Her work has been presented, notably, at Rosalux (Berlin), Dazibao (Montréal), Vuphoto (Québec), AXENÉO7 (Gatineau), the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides (Saint-Jérôme), the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, the Galerie de l’UQAM, Galerie Artem (France), and Galerie Trois Points (Montréal). Her works are held in several public and private collections.
