Juan David Molina Velasco

Juan David Molina Velasco’s artistic practice is nourished by transdisciplinarity and cultural relationships, oscillating between scientific philosophy and the sensibility of matter. Through deconstruction and shifts in meaning, he works on the poetic materialization of systems, aiming to create a subtle dissonance in perception of reality. His visual language draws on the affects of his personal history. His practice is a creative continuum that constantly renews itself. He seeks to use everyday signs and codes to disrupt the everyday, exploring the phenomenon of how an idea can spread and influence thought. It is through his imagination that he asserts his identity, and through his gestures that he constructs his reality.

Originally from Colombia, Juan David Molina Velasco was uprooted by violence. He came to know his culture of origin through childhood memories and distant stories. He integrated into a new culture and had to learn a new language. He grew up navigating between two worlds, uncertain of how to define himself or where to belong.
