Performance

The artist was invited by CLARK’s performance committee, in collaboration with Galerie du Nouvel Ontario, to take part in FAAS from May 12 to 16. This year, the festival welcomes artists for a week of in situ creation centered on the theme of has/zard.

Parked in front of the gallery, GNO will close Larch Street between Durham and Elgin for a week of in situ creation centered on the theme of chance.

Hasard refers to an unpredictable, fortuitous event without a known cause, or to a force acting randomly, often associated with luck or fate. It may take the form of an unexpected coincidence (by chance), logical unpredictability (as in games), or a philosophical concept of non-necessary causality.

Hazard is an unknown and unpredictable phenomenon that causes an event to result one way rather than another. As a verb, it means to take a risk, especially for the chance of a good return. You might hazard your chances at the roulette table or hazard a guess—that is, risk making a guess when you aren’t certain.

Big bus, car, flatbed, trucks of all kinds—the vehicles become the canvas-vehicle for each project, activating these temporary creative zones. Installed and developed over the course of a week, artists and the public will gather bumper to bumper for these spontaneous encounters. Beep beep! Let’s go for a joy ride! Turn on your hazard lights!
