Rose de la Riva presents sous la croûte, a performance rooted in her research on agriculture, bread, and witchcraft. Guided by the expression “manger son pain noir,” which evokes the historical hardship of the working classes, she portrays a state of alterity, a darkness intensified by the collective hysteria surrounding ergot of rye (a hallucinogenic fungus). Between white bread and black bread, burnt crust and dark veil, a political and personal metaphor unfolds.

Through a series of absurd and symbolic gestures, imbued with humor and vulnerability, the artist deliberately sets herself up for failure. Like a collage, the performance traces its narrative in crumbs and stones, revealing an unsettling inner darkness.

This performance is presented in collaboration with DRAC Art actuel.
