Cycles and cycles is an archaeology of silence
Cycles and cycles is an amplification of silence
Cycles and cycles is an incursion into a morgue
Cycles and cycles is the auscultation of the silence of a morgue

Cycles and cycles is a listening device
Cycles and cycles is a quartet of magnetic tapes
Cycles and cycles is a landscape of revolving movements
Cycles and cycles is a tangle of audio loops
Cycles and cycles is the perpetual iteration of sounds

Cycles and cycles is an appearance
Cycles and cycles is a disappearance
Cycles and cycles is a crossroads between life and death
Cycles and cycles is the repetition of daily routine
Cycles and cycles is the ritornello of emotions

Cycles and cycles is Cycles and cycles

Julien Champagne has developed a multidisciplinary practice that spans the fields of media arts and experimental music. His work explores the malleability of sound, landscape and everyday objects, while often referencing 20th century canonical artworks. Champagne holds a Master's degree in Art History, and his research primarily focuses on the appropriation of the cinematographic medium in contemporary art. As a musician, he participates in various musical improvisation groups and collaborates with video artists and filmmakers to create a dialogue between sounds and moving images. His collaborations have led him to present his work at numerous music and film festivals in Canada, France, the United States and Australia.

His solo exhibition Écrans was recently presented at Occurrence, in Montreal. Over the past year, his works have also been shown at Traverse Vidéo festival (Toulouse, France) and at Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (Montreal, Canada). Other previous exhibitions were held at Daïmôn (Gatineau, Canada), La  Déviation (Marseille, France), Chromatic Festival (Montreal, Canada) and Praxis art actuel (Sainte-Thérèse, Canada).

Champagne’s practice has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Some of his works are distributed by Vidéographe and the Winnipeg Film Group. He lives and works in Montreal, Canada.
