A proposal by Sonia Pelletier

Inflorescences is a sudden passion, an intuition that led to the bringing together of two painters. It is also a way to pay homage to the Clark Center for its unconditional support of pictorial practice in emerging generations of contemporary art over the last 18 years (C’est grand!) This symbiotic encounter reaches for the festive, as much for the gallery’s anniversary as for the fruitful associations revealed by the exhibited works.

Dominated by drawing, the two bodies of work offer the viewer universes, spaces and territories whose relational fields are diametrically opposed. The similarities between the two artists take place rather in the works’ formal composition. We are presented with rhizomatically-organized tracings that form knots of resistance, empty spaces and multi-directional deployments. It is through the interactions of force, contained within the work itself, that this exhibition offers itself up.
