The stars cling to the vault like nails, while the sun, the moon, and the planets—like flat disks supported by the air—float there like a leaf. (Anaximenes, freely translated.) Through the pull of gravity, this work combines drawings and short texts drawn from the earliest Greek treatises on astronomy with images and materials of our time. Joan Rzadkiewicz’s works invite reflection on the nature of interpretive thought, incorporating historical references as elements of the topography of unknown terrain, thereby highlighting the aspirations that seem apparent in this research.
