Following up on the Walk-in Progress project, a 10-month process-based occupation of the washroom created by Mario Duscheneau in 2004/2005, the programming committee of the CLARK centre has decided to continue its art integration programme by offering the internationally renowned comics artists Julie Doucet our lounge space in the same manner. She takes up the challenge with great enthusiasm and presents a project that will be gradually deployed each month. It builds on the basis of the specific spatial relations of the lounge as an antechamber, of its wall surfaces, its furniture and its function, based as it is on conviviality. Coming from an artist who combines drawing and storytelling, and who also makes engravings, the take-over of the lounge space could well transform itself into the strategic elaboration of a multi-episode story that will require one to follow it, chapter by chapter, for a full understanding. Julie Doucet is an audacious comics artist whose body of work, widely translated and distributed in numerous countries, has already charmed thousands of fascinated readers.

Continuing the Programme 99% bon, in which the artist Mario Duchesneau was given our washroom to create an evolving work over the course of last season, this year grants carte blanche to the artist Julie Doucet who will occupy the gallery’s entrance with À l’école de l’amour. Known principally as the creator of comic books, Julie Doucet will present a parade of ludic and lewd little figurines that will surely show us the full range of the artist’s unbridled imagination.
