With this exhibition of recent paintings, Montreal artist David Blatherwick presents a new chapter in his exploration of unusual surfaces and mediums. These surfaces and mediums are part of a pursuit of art that “transcends reality.” These works, built around language and imagery drawn from popular culture, serve as commentaries on contemporary ideological confusion and insidious violence. The result is a body of work that is at once satirical and disconcerting, yet strangely beautiful.
