“An exhibition bringing together various machines, inventions, and curiosities, including, among other things, an autarciophone—a veritable machine for listening to oneself speak, equipped with a spittle drain (a technical innovation in this field)—sandals for walking on eggshells, a machine for going around in circles, to name just a few.” D. BARIL
Taking an ironic look at the world of mechanics, Dennis Baril presents an exhibition composed of a series of devices and constructions whose unusual uses are often revealed after reading the title accompanying the work. Titles such as “Device for Talking to Oneself Eye-to-Eye,” “Necessary for Feeling Blue,” and “Machine for Listening to Oneself Speak” hint at the playful and essential element that this textual support represents for the overall understanding of these “ready-made”-like constructions that are Dennis Baril’s objects.
