Judith Berry’s paintings depict an intensified space reminiscent of that found in paintings predating the discovery of perspective. As in the early days of Christian painting, the unreal can interrupt the real; the ordinary can coexist with the extraordinary. The figures share the same physical plane and transcend linear time. They are treated with rigorous equality: nothing separates the carnal from the spiritual, the prosaic from the mythological, or the animal from the human.
