Michel Lamothe
“…Lamothe conceives of photography as a more manual than visual activity. And it is no coincidence that the world we are given to see (to touch) is not so much that of people (more or less effaced) as that of things (plants, empty chairs). And that things are more often hazy and fluid than firm and consistent: clouds and skies (always highly variable), branches and leaves (always very trembling). Movement of the body and vibration of the world are one and the same. Trembling is the most insistent sign of all these motifs. The trembling of time and light in photography. At the antipodes of the decisive moment: the indecision of duration. A moment captured before being captured. […] Michel Lamothe has the freedom of a filmmaker in photography, just as he has the freedom of a photographer in cinema. He inhabits a vital space and he allows his images to breathe the free air that exists between these two worlds.” »
