Walter Cotten makes photographs of studio installations involving found and purpose built objets and situations.
The installations are often built “through the camera viewfinder”. The composition of the pieces depends on the perspective and point of view of the camera lens. The installations are fabricated specifically to be photographed.
Cotten regards his work as “inter-medial”. The installations involve the disciplines of painting and sculpture much as they involve the photograph.
Walter Cotten lives in Los Angeles, Califomia. His work has been shown in the USA and in Britain, Italy and the Peoples Republic of China.
