At the intersection of visual arts and literature, Karina Pawlikowski questions the limits of doing and completion by disfiguring the media of the exhibition. Her practice reveals works where everything remains to be built by the listener. The materiality of the work is concentrated in the capacity of the listener to transform ideas into images; here an object, then a space, a lighting design, and even a trajectory of transmitted audio information. Her stories are filled with references to intimacy and to domestic space by considering the physical body of the listener and / or the narrator. Pawlikowski’s work deals with concepts related to the performative character of the exhibition and language by putting forward subjective writing dictated by a disembodied voice. Sans objet : l’audioguide is a work lasting 5 minutes 32 seconds, made audible by a synthesized voice named Chantal. Use this voice to guide you, like a banister or a yellow line on the ground and you’ll see, everything will be fine.

BIO
For three decades, I have had a body that I use to perform actions for which I am rarely remunerated. I give breastfeed, I study and I produce things: at times visible, at times edible, at times alive. Some of these things are elevated to the rank of artworks and vetted by players in the field of contemporary art. These objects are then exposed, disseminated and acquired in exchange for a variable monetary value. When I was a child, I collected precious stones in Nord-du-Québec. Thus far, quartz is my greatest acquisition.
