This impulse of desire remained, at its core, a desire for movement—as happens when one cannot move toward any place because the world does not exist or because one does not know that it exists, and in such cases, desire drives one to act, to do something—or, if you will, to do anything at all. But when one cannot do anything because the external world is lacking, the only thing one can allow oneself—with very few resources at one’s disposal—is that special kind of action that consists of speaking.
