This campaign aims to support the creation of special programming for emerging artists as part of the CLARK Bookstore’s 15th anniversary.

We want to expand the mandate of the CLARK Bookstore by encouraging the development of editorial and self-publishing work among emerging contemporary artists. At the same time, we plan to rethink the Bookstore’s layout in order to give it greater visibility, accessibility and space. More specifically, we want to offer a program of activities centred on artists’ books and zines, coordinate more substantial launches outside of our regular programming — with talks and discussion periods — organize writing workshops, and bring together emerging artists interested in publishing and in discourse on contemporary art.

Launched in 2012, the CLARK Bookstore is dedicated to contemporary art and operates entirely on a consignment model. Its mandate is to provide visibility and a point of sale for artists and cultural workers in order to promote their publications. The CLARK Bookstore coordinates several launches each year, along with discussions and reading nights, in addition to supporting publishing projects.

The CLARK Centre community now wishes to equip itself with the means to strengthen its ties with emerging artists by rolling out a tailor-made program of activities with its partners, creating new opportunities for the target audiences and contemporary artists to meet.

Reaching the first goal will make it possible to carry out the program of activities for emerging artists (29 and under), which breaks down as follows:

⟢ Reading circle with guest artists and a free book: monthly activities for a total of about ten events, from November 2026 to June 2027;

⟢ A series of 5 talks with various figures from the literary and visual arts communities on specific issues facing emerging artists;

⟢ Zine-making workshop;

⟢ Collaboration with Artexte to create 5 podcast episodes in which emerging artists speak about their first publishing projects;

⟢ Support for a first micro-publishing experience through a call for projects.

Once the initial goal is reached, additional funding will first go toward supporting the renovation of the Bookstore to improve the conditions for displaying and managing its inventory of publications. Reconfiguring the space will help better accommodate the Bookstore’s activities and its audiences, and allow us to showcase publishing projects or artists.

We also hope to gather the funds needed to finance a second year of our programming for emerging artists.

The campaign runs from September 28 to October 25, 2026.

For every dollar raised, an additional dollar will be contributed by the Fonds Mille et Un pour la jeunesse!

Support a small space that works great wonders!
