The banner waves calmly: a conversation between Daisy Desrosiers and Sky Goodden
A conversation with the curator Daisy Desrosiers and art critic Sky Goodden will be the closing event of The Banner Waves Calmly presented at Centre CLARK. Open to the public, this exchange aims to be an introspective take at the curator’s interests around issues of visibility and representation. This will also be, for Desrosiers and Goodden, an opportunity to reflect on common grounds of interests.
An interdisciplinary art historian with a background in independent curatorial work, Daisy Desrosiers’ current research focuses on the cultural, post-colonial, and material implications of the use of sugar in contemporary art. She is the inaugural Director of Programs for the Lunder Institute for American Art at Colby College (Waterville, Maine, USA). From 2012 to 2017, Desrosiers was the director of Battat Contemporary (Montréal, Canada). In 2018 she was the inaugural recipient of the Nicholas Fox Weber curatorial fellowship, affiliated with the Glucksman Museum (Cork, Ireland) as well as a curatorial fellow-in-residence at Art in General (Brooklyn, NY) in partnership with Centre CLARK (Montréal, Canada) and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
Sky Goodden is the founding publisher and editor of Momus, an international online art publication and podcast that stresses a return to art criticism. Momus has been critically recognized, and widely read and shared. It was shortlisted for two International Awards for Art Criticism in 2016. As of its fourth anniversary, Momus has grown an audience of over 850,000 readers. Its first print compendium, Momus: A Return to Art Criticism Vol. 1 (2014-17), was published in 2017, which Goodden toured across Canada, the US, and Mexico. Momus is currently producing the second season of its podcast, Momus: The Podcast, which has been syndicated by NTS Radio (London, UK). Goodden holds an MFA in Criticism & Curatorial Practice from OCAD University, which in 2016 awarded her with an Alumni of Influence Award, “The Trailblazer.” She has published in Modern Painters, Canadian Art, C Magazine, the National Post, and Art21, and has a forthcoming byline in Frieze. Goodden is the Artist-in-Residence at Concordia University for 2018-19.
