The HB Magazine’s team is currently preparing its next issues 9 and 10.
Like the previous ones, these issues will take the form of paper exhibitions. Each magazine will show 12 to 15 artists’ drawings.
HB Nº 9 – Subject : Engagement
In preparation for its 9th issue under the theme Engagement, which aims to highlight the ways in which the theme of engagement is embodied in contemporary drawing practices, HB invites artists to read this call for submissions.
The term «engaged art» has long been part of the critical vocabulary for political or social demands embodied in artistic practices. Whether it is to bear witness, denounce, express indignation or lift the veil on hidden realities, the commitment of artists manifests itself in their works as much as in their speech. At a time when the environment, social justice, and the fight against inequality are on the public agenda, in the streets and in the digital realm, what positions do artists adopt? How and why do they engage? This ninth issue of HB Magazine aims to make visible the different facets of engagement: those that allow us to take care of others, those that speak out loudly about what can no longer remain in silence, those that develop through the force of convictions, those that come from intimate experience, and those that are woven slowly, over the course of a lifetime. HB invites artists who practice drawing, regardless of age, origin, or professional status, to submit.
The submission must include :
• Maximum of 10 images, compressed in a ZIP file (JPEG, 72 dpi, maximum width: 1024 pixels);
• A PDF file including a CV of no more than 3 pages, contact information and a detailed list of images, including the techniques used and the year of realization.
Send your proposal to
[email protected] (Subject line: Proposal — HB #9) before Monday July 12th, 2021.
* Only selected artists will be contacted.
* Please note that we are committed to following CARFAC guidelines regarding artists’ fees if funding allows it.
HB Nº 10— Subject: Visions
This issue will explore the creative possibilities of the unconscious. The drawing visions that we seek, transcend the physical world and take the form of delusions of the imagination, phantasmagoria, dreams, hallucinations, mystics, fabulations, illusions and fantastic universes in which the relation to reality is upset. They often (but not always) arise from experiences of hypnagogic states, altered consciousness or trances. The atmosphere emerging from these works is imbued with feelings of strangeness, detachment, unreality, unease or euphoria. Therefore we summon supernatural powers in order to bring forth drawing projects stemming from the unconscious creative imagination of their creators.
The submission must include :
