Not I & others
At the intersection of dance and performance, Not I & Othersis created through the combination and distortion of previously existing works. As with artists who practice electronic music, hip hop, and the visual arts, both creators/performers adopt sampling as their creative approach. Performed within an open space where the public can circulate freely, a soundscape is created in real time as bodies bend, are loosened and unfold. Movements and words by other artists (Erwin Wurn, Kenneth Goldsmith, Caroline Bergvall, and Bruce Nauman) are reused and de-contextualized in order to better appropriate them. The sampled works are Beckettian, the movements and corporeal attitudes are absurd, obsessive, and timeless.

Since 2001, Karine Denault has developed a unique aesthetic of the physicality that occurs in movements, attitudes, bodily states and actions. Her works, which have been presented in Canada and in Europe, integrate a diversity of artistic disciplines (dance, literature, music, performance and visual arts), and question the fixed codes of dance, as well as the ways it produces symbols and meaning. Since February 2013, she has been an artist-in-residence at L’Agora de la danse, in Montréal, where she premiered her most recent creation, Pleasure Dome, a work for six performers created in collaboration with dancer-choreographer Dana Gingras, performance artist kg Guttman, and musician-performers from the experimental electro-rock formation K.A.N.T.N.A.G.A.N.O. (Jonathan Parant, Alexandre St-Onge, Alexander Wilson). Reprised in France in the fall of 2013, Pleasure Dome was ranked one of the year’s best dance pieces, according to Le Devoir and the Local Gestures website. In parallel to her creative activities and her dance collaborations, Karine was also co-director of the publishing house Le Quartanier (2008-2015), co-director and director of OVNI Magazine (2008-2010), as well as artistic consultant for the Festival TransAmériques (2010-2014).
Alexandre St-Onge is a sound artist, improvisational musician (double-bass, bass, voice and electronics), as well as a sound performer. He completed his doctoral studies in art (October 2014 thesis), and is fascinated by the act of creativity as a pragmatic approach to the elusive. He has released ten solo albums, his most recent releases being LE SUJET MODIFIANT LE SUJET (squintfuckerpress), viorupeeeeihean (Oral), Ailleurs(&records) and Entités (Oral). He also plays in several bands, including Klaxon Gueule, Shalabi Effect, Les esprits frappeurs, Pink Saliva, mineminemine, Et Sans, and K.A.N.T.N.A.G.A.N.O., with whom he has recorded several albums. As a sound composer, he has worked with the interdisciplinary media arts company kondition pluriel, and artists such as Marie Brassard, Karine Denault, Lynda Gaudreau, Line Nault, Jérémie Niel, Maryse Poulin, and Mariko Tanabe.
